Lock and unlock of cycling shoes into pedals

Lock and unlock of cycling shoes into pedals:

If you purchased new power pedals and cycling shoes, you must first install the new pedal crank. If you have regular pedals on a bicycle, unscrew the two pedals backwards. Grease the threads on the crank and pedals with lubricant. Then screw the new pedals tightly to the crank. Be careful, because the pedals are left and right threaded.

Many pedals are also marked (R-or L / right-left). Then adjust the cleats to your cycling shoes. You should get them together with the pedals. Place your bicycle next to a fence or anything similar, which you can grasp. While trying the lock and unlock of your shoes, grab the fence! Try to mount first the right shoe into the pedal, then the left one. Combined and road pedals only have access on one side of the pedal. For mutual MTB pedals you can lock on both sides. Then unlock first the right foot and then the left from the pedals.

If necessary you can adjust the level of hardness of the lock and unlock into the pedal. It should be the same on both pedals. Then try locking and unlocking, using the above mentioned procedure. Try to get a feeling for that and try to remember where the shoe is positioned in the pedal.

Then ride the bike in an isolated area. Lock the right foot into the right pedal and leave your weight on the left foot. Then set the bicycle in motion and crank with the right foot to get a little speed. Then lock the left foot into the left foot pedal. Make sure you pay attention to the road.

If you do not succeed immediately and your bike has stopped, restart with your right foot already locked. Slightly increase the speed and ride a few metres to get a feeling for that. Then without braking first unlock the left foot and then the right foot from the pedal. Slow down until the bicycle completely stops and then get down.

The first recreational ride should be devoted to learning, which means that while you are cycling lock and unlock the shoes several times (without braking). As the speed is higher and you are driving in traffic, make sure you pay attention to the traffic.

With some experience you can also unlock the left shoe first from the pedal. Remember to put your weight on the left side when you are going to stop, because the left foot is already unlocked. Be careful, if you put your weight to the right side you may fall and this can happen even without speed, or while standing. Unlock the right pedal when you have already stopped.

Info: We have a special device with which we can accurately adjust the cleats to your shoes. The cleats can be adjusted more front, back, left or right and we can set the same distance of the shoe from the crank arm on the left and right side. Adjusted cleats protect the knees and feet, as this allows the proper ride of a bicycle. Thus, the correct adjustment of cleats increases cycling efficiency. Besides the correct saddle height, this is a very important factor too.
